Your Guide to Creating an Outstanding Garden in 2022!

If you live in a property with its own garden, you should count yourself lucky. After all, homes with gardens consistently top homebuyers’ wishlists … and homes with well-maintained gardens are even more desirable!

If you aspire to boost your home’s value or simply want to make the most of your property, you should turn your attention to the garden. Making a few well-placed improvements to your outdoor space can seriously boost your home’s kerb appeal.

So, what steps should you take to create a showstopping garden space in 2022? We’ve put together a quick guide to help you figure out the perfect plan for your garden …

Hire a Skip

Hiring a skip whilst renovating your garden will make it easier to dispose of any waste that your projects generate. For most modest garden projects, if you hire a 4-yard skip, this should suffice. However, you can always consult with your local skip hire specialist for their opinion on what size would best suit your project.

Standard skips are suitable for most waste types (including gravel, dirt and aggregates). However, they are not suitable for certain types of waste, such as Waste Electrical Equipments & Electronics (WEEE), hazardous materials such as plasterboard, chemicals, tyres and gas cylinders.

Please also bear in mind that if you plan to place your hired skip on public land (i.e. pavements, public pathways, or on a public road), then you will need to obtain planning permission. Many leading skip hire companies will help to secure planning permission at your request, making the process that much simpler!

Get Your Green Space in Order

Garden gloves at the ready! It’s time to tackle those stubborn weeds and attend to the flowerbeds. Mow the lawn and, if needed, scarify or treat it. If your lawn is in need of expert help, it’s worth considering hiring a trusted local landscaper to help it look its best. They should also be able to assist with any overgrowing trees and hedges!

Any waste generated can be placed in your skip for hassle-free collection.

Declutter Your Garden

Unsightly clutter can bring down any garden in the estimation of visitors. Get rid of that rusting wendy house, clear away those old toys and clear out those broken plant pots. If you have a creative streak, you may wish to repurpose these broken pots to create a colourful mosaic!

Check your front and back gardens for any litter and debris that may have blown in from the streets and tidy it away.

Repaint Your Garden Shed

If your current garden shed is starting to look worn and tired, why not treat it to a makeover? To begin with, add a coat of black bitumen paint. This will boost your shed’s durability and help to protect it from the elements.

Now, it’s time to repaint it. Think carefully about the colour you would lille. Marine Blue, Sage Green, Dorchester Pink and Stony Ground are all popular options that are worthy of your consideration. To make your shed even more eye-catching, you can paint the door a contrasting colour!

Add a Patio Area

If you want a space to drink, dine, relax and entertain outdoors, why not add a patio area to your garden? You may opt for a patio paved with concrete or stone flags, bricks, cobbles or gravel.

If you’re relatively confident with paving, you may attempt to build your own patio area. However, if you are not, we would advise consulting an experienced landscaping company. Invest in a good quality barbecue, tables and chairs and you’re good to go.

It is also worth considering a storage box, for any soft furnishings and a patio heater, so that you can make use of your patio all year round.
